Rezakas Trail Run

ΠΛΟKAMIA, MUNICIPALITY OF INACHORIO, MUNICIPALITY OF KISSAMOS, PREFECTURE OF CHANIA, CRETE

The Plokamianon Cultural and Cultural Sports Association of Kissamos, the Health Runners Group of Kissamos, the Regional Unit of Chania and the Municipality of Kissamos organize a running / dynamic walking event in the semi-mountainous area of the villages of Plokamiana, Tzitzifias, Perivolia, Kefalio, Aerinos, Pappadiana and Vathis of the District of Chania.E. Inachorio of the Municipality of Kissamos that will include a 24.2 km race, an 8 km race, a children's race of 1450m and parallel events. The Retzakas trail run is addressed to athletes, mountain or road runners, walkers and nature lovers. Our routes are a reason for people from all over Crete and Greece to get to know the hinterland of our region, the paths, the hidden beauties, the tradition, the local products, the flora and fauna, the surrounding villages and will give you the opportunity to discover the waterfall "Retzaka".

Here are details & regulations for the conduct of the Rezakas Trail Run 2024

  1. DATE: Sunday 04 February 2024
  1. VENUE: The hilly area of Plokamiana, Tzitzifia, Perivolia, Kefalio, Aerino, Pappadiana and Vathi (Municipality of Inachorio, Municipality of Kissamos, 10 km before Lafonisi)
  1. STARTING & FINISHING POINT: Old Primary School of Plokamiana (See here: https://bit.ly/trailrun22start )
  1. TYPES OF FIGHT: Running Race Trail RUN (cross-country) and dynamic walking. 2 + 1 routes are included:
  • Rezakas ENTRY of 6,8km and ±420m in altitude.
  • Rezakas CHALLENGE of 24,2km and ±1250m altitude
  • Children's race 1450m with the name "Little farmer Trail for children"
  1. STARTING TIMES - PROGRAMME:
  • EXCITEMENT Rezakas CHALLENGE (24,2Km): 10:00 am.
  • EXCITEMENT Rezakas ENTRY (6,8km): 10:30 am.
  • EXERCISE Agrulidaki Trail for children: 12:00 p.m.
  • AWARDS Rezakas ENTRY (6,8km): 13:00 p.m.
  • AWARDS Rezakas CHALLENGE (24,2km): 14:00 p.m.
  • END OF TIMETRING Rezzakas CHALLENGE (24.2km): 15:00 p.m. (5 hours after the start)
  • CLOSING DATE: 16:00 p.m.

In case of a possible change in the hours there will be a notification.

  1. ELIGIBILITY: For the RETZAKAS CHALLENGE (race 24,2Km) adult men and women aged 18 years and older are eligible to participate. Participant limits: 100 participants. For the RETZAKAS ENTRY (race 6,8Km) can be participated by adults and children from 12 years old and above (children participate with a solemn declaration of a parent or guardian). Participant limit: 200 participants. For AROULIDAKI TRAIL Primary school children have the right to participate. The races are generally addressed to athletes and non-athletes, runners and walkers, to ordinary people who like running in the mountains, but also to all of you who enjoy dynamic walking in nature. Participants are advised to be in good health and take personal responsibility for the necessary medical check-up before the race and are obliged to accept the conditions of participation during the online registration. Also for the participation in the race will apply instructions-obligations mentioned and applicable based on the clarifying instructions of the General Secretariat of Sport, before the date of the event. HOUSING are allowed but must be under the constant supervision and responsibility of their boss. They must be tethered or on a leash because there are places on the route where sheep and goats graze.
  1. DECLARATIONS OF PARTICIPATION: Registration is only possible online from here and will close on Tuesday 30 January 2024 at 14:00 or when places are filled. Each registration - participation is nominal and unique for each person and cannot be transferred to another person for any reason. Possibility for handwritten registrations There will be NO as well as registration at the secretariat on the day of the race will NOT be done, (with the exception of the children's race where registrations will be made on the spot and before the race)
  1. COST OF PARTICIPATION AND BENEFITS: The cost of participation for Rezakas ENTRY is set at 12€ and for the Rezakas CHALLENGE at 25€. In the children's race Agroulidaki Trail participation is free of charge.

The 12€ package includes (for the RETZAKAS ENTRY):

  • Envelope with the participation number with 4 safety pins, timing chip.
  • Multiscarf type envelope - anthrax
  • Fabric bag
  • Participation Medal (will be given at the Finish).
  • Water supply at a specific point on the route.
  • Health cover.
  • Feeding, hydration, post-race treatment.
  • Photographic material.

The 25€ package includes (for the RETZAKAS CHALLENGE):

  • Envelope with the participation number with 4 safety pins, chip timing.
  • Quality Technical anthrax t-shirt
  • Multiscarf type envelope - anthrax
  • Jellyfish
  • Fabric bag
  • Participation Medal (will be given at the Finish).
  • Water supply, Water supply at specific points along the route.
  • Health cover.
  • Feeding, hydration, post-race treatment.
  • Photographic material.

In order to finalize the registration the payment of the participation fee must be made

  • Payment by card at the completion of registration (QUICK AND EASY WAY). A button for card payment appears where you are taken to a secure transaction window. You also get a notification and a email your registration as well as 3 notifications in the following days for payment.
  • by bank deposit at: GR77 0690 0010 0000 0020 6046 001 (Bank of Chania, Beneficiary PLOKAMIANA CULTURAL and SPORTS CLUB..) with note in the reason, name of the participant(s) and race (example: George Papadopoulos, Rezzakas Challenge). Please deposit the exact price. In case you make a deposit through another bank, the Embassy charges are borne by the participant (example: If a deposit of 25€ via Piraeus Bank to Chania Bank, results in a transfer fee of 3€, then the participant will be charged 28€).
  • with payment on the spot the SECOND 15th, 22nd & FRIDAY 26th of January at the Harodia Sports Centre in Perivolia, Chania, 18:00 to 20:00.

Refunds from online payment and on the spot payment are not possible for any reason. Please note that the organization has no obligation and no responsibility for anyone who has not registered online and come to the race. Anyone who has not registered electronically, paid the fee and does not have a participation number (bib) IS NOT Eligible to participate nor is he/she entitled to any souvenir. The posted entry lists will indicate whether or not your registration is finalized (completed ή pending)

  1. RECEIPT OF PARTICIPATION PACKAGES: Receipt of participation packages will be possible:
  • CHANIA - THURSDAY 1 FEBRUARY 2023 and hours 19:00 to 21:00 CHANIA, Harodia Sports Centre, Perivolia, Chania.
  • KISAMOS - FRIDAY 2 FEBRUARY 2023 and hours 18:00 to 19:00 at Kissamos Town Hall
  • PLOCAMIANA - SATURDAY 3 FEBRUARY 2023 and hours 14:00 to 18:00 at Plokamiana Primary School
  • PLOCAMIANA - SUNDAY 4 FEBRUARY 2024, 08:15 to 10:00 (until 09:30 for the CHALLENGE) at the Secretariat where it will be available at the Start- Finish point

It is advisable for those who can pick up the days before the race to avoid overcrowding and any delays on the day of the event. If there are any changes to the schedules there will be updates.

  1. ACCESS TO THE RACE: Detailed instructions can be found HERE: https://retzakas.gr/prosvasi/ . There will also be a bus service for the route CHANIA - KISAMOS - PLOKAMIANA with return trip at a cost of 5€. Those who want to travel by bus will be able to do so during the online registration of the race. The route will start from CHANIA (bus station) at 07:00 a.m. exactly, and at 07:45 a.m. from KISAMOS (Municipality of KISAMOS) and is expected to arrive in Plokamiana at 08:40 a.m. Departure from Plokamiana at 15:30 p.m. for return to Kissamos and Chania respectively. Prepayment of the 5€ fee can be made by bank deposit or by paying on the spot at Harodia to pay for your participation (see 8). The route will have NO intermediate stops and departure times will be strictly observed.
  1. ROUTE DESCRIPTIONS: Detailed information can be found on the official website of the event.
  1. JOURNEY TIME LIMITS:
  • For the Rezakas race ENTRY (6,8km) there is a time limit for termination 2 hours (valid timings until 12:30).
  • For the Rezakas match CHALLENGE (24,2km) time limit of termination is the 5 hours (race completion at 15:00pm). On the long route there will be an intermediate timing point with a time limit for the safety of the athletes and the smooth running of the races.

In 2ο Main Station - Head at 12,3Km, time limit 2h:45min

There will be "sweepers" from the organization's staff on both routes to accompany the last runners and walkers so that no one will be left alone on the route. Any minor changes to the limits will be notified.

  1. ROUTE MARKING: The organization will have ensured the adequate marking of the route with darts, signs, color markings, ribbons & project tapes that will indicate the correct course of each runner and walker on both routes. At several points along the race there will be volunteers guiding the runners to the correct course. There will be colour separation of the two routes. The participants of the Retzakas ENTRY follow the green (light green) route, green ribbons, arrows with green circle. The participants in the Rezakas Challenge follow the orange route, green ribbons, arrows with orange rhombus. Project ribbons (white - red) will be in places where crossing is prohibited. In those parts of the route that are common to both races there will be markings in both colours (darts, spray paint, ribbons).
  1. CHECKPOINTS: For the Rezakas ENTRY the checkpoint and compulsory crossing point will be the waterfall Retzakas. For the Rezzakas CHALLENGE control points will be ALL FOOD POINTS. There will be volunteers there who will note the individual participation number of each athlete (bib) as confirmation that they have passed through the points so the participation number should be prominently displayed. Any runner who finishes but does not have a pass through the intermediate checkpoints, the finish is considered an AWOL finish.
  1. ROUTE POWER SUPPLIES: Detailed information can be found on the official website of the event.
  1. MANDATORY EQUIPMENT: There is no compulsory equipment for the participants, but it is recommended to wear shoes of the type trail since most of the route is dirt with many stones. The use of baton is also allowed to any participant who wishes to use it. The use of gloves, windproof, isothermal is at the discretion of each participant and will depend on the weather conditions on the day of the event. In the last days - hours before the event there will be a notification for any special requirement due to weather conditions. Any use of technical means by the participants on the route (bicycle, motorbike, scooter) is FORBIDDEN.
  1. CATEGORIES & AWARDS:
  • In the Rezakas ENTRY there will be: Men's General Category, Women's General Category, Boys up to 18 years old, Girls up to 18 years old.
  • In the Rezakas CHALLENGE there will be: Men's General Category, Women's General Category, up to 39 Men, up to 39 Women, 40 to 49 Men, 40 to 49 Women, 50+ Men, 50+ Women.

The winners of the general categories are NOT awarded in the individual age categories. Awards in the individual age categories will be given ONLY IF there are at least 3 people in that category.

  1. CANCELLATIONS - EXCLUSIONS: In cases where a participant throws a bottle or any other waste into the environment will draw a disqualification penalty. It is also forbidden and draws disqualification to cut (shortening, shortcut) the route as well as any unsportsmanlike behavior (pushing, violence, racism, etc.). A disqualification will be given when an intermediate time limit or finish line is exceeded (see 12) and a finish by a runner who has not made a valid crossing of the checkpoint (see 14) will also be considered invalid.
  1. WEATHER CONDITIONS: The races will take place normally in case of rain. Except for the possibility of a decision by the Civil Protection to cancel outdoor activities
  1. POSTPONEMENT: At in case the race is postponed through no fault of the organizers (extreme weather conditions) the race will take place on Sunday 18 February 2024 at the same time at the same location. In case of postponement again there will be a further announcement.
  1. STAFFA EIDH: At the starting and finishing area (Old Primary School of Plokamiana) there will be a point where participants can leave their personal belongings for safekeeping during the run.
  1. ROUTE SAFETY AND INSURANCE: The organisers have ensured that a safe race will take place with the contribution of the local branch of the Hellenic Red Cross, the Police and the Fire Brigade and there will be a doctor and an ambulance waiting. There is also provision to remove parts of the route even at the last minute if necessary for the safety of the participants in case of extreme weather conditions. The organization does not insure the participating athletes. Insurance companies do not undertake group insurance for outdoor activities with a degree of risk for obvious reasons. It is at the discretion of each athlete to take out an individual life insurance policy at another time, covering - if possible - the event of an accident under the conditions of an endurance race in a mountainous area.
  1. INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY RIGHTS: The Organization reserves the copyright of the photography and filming of the race, which is carried out by partners and volunteers. Any athlete whose application for participation is accepted automatically accepts this condition, knowing that his/her face may appear in photographs or videos, without being asked for permission and without being able to claim any compensation from any publication of race material.

The organisers have the right to change the rules or the route without notice if necessary for safety reasons. Also for anything not provided for in the notice - regulations the organization will issue a new information - announcement or decide on the spot.

The Retzakas Trail Run is a member of the Inahories Diadromes (Inahori Routes) family, which also includes the historic Lafonisios Dromos (Lafonisi Route) race that takes place in Lafonisi every September.
